EPISODE 5: ANXIETY

WHAT IS ANXIETY?

I feel like most people know what anxiety is because most people have felt with anxiety to some degree. Anxiety is intense, excessive, and persistent worry and fear about everyday situations.

  • fast heart rate, rapid breathing, sweating, and feeling tired may occur.


COMMON CAUSES:

Normal in stressful situations:

  • public speaking

  • test taking

Anxiety becomes an issue when feelings become excessive, all-consuming, and interfere with daily living.


BEST WAYS TO HELP A LOVED ONE WITH ANXIETY:

It honestly depends on the person, so with that, asking each person how they want/need help with. For me, it depends on the situation, and I personally know how to get myself out of those situations.


SOME WAYS TO COPE WITH ANXIETY:

  • Working out

  • Healthy diets

  • A good sleep schedule

  • Meditation/Yoga

  • Journaling

For me, I make a schedule and/or a to do list. I know that I'm not always going to get everything done or things may change, but thats okay and I'll be able to get it done the next day. Another thing that helps me is finding my stressed and see what I can do to avoid it or to work with it. Something that has helped me in the past is grounding exercises.

  • A common one is: going from 5-1 naming tastings from your senses.

Seeking Treatments

Seek medical attention immediately if you:

  • are thinking about suicide

  • can't work or complete activities of daily living

Make an appointment to see a doctor if you:

  • Cant work or maintain relationships

  • abuse alcohol or other substances

  • feel sad and slowed down
